Tonalist landscape with a mystery touch.
And one of those special pieces that come unexpected. The painting started en plain air, as I was out painting in the nearby forest one Summer morning, loosely inspired by some paintings by George Inness I watched the previous day.
From one thing to another the scene on my easel turned to this special supernatural scene. I followed along and let the composition unwind, with that mysterious figure emerging from the golden light of sun rising between the beech trees. The immediate idea was of some forest dwelling herbalist out on a walk, hence the title.
Really special, this small magical landscape.
The painting is in oil on panel )canvas paper mounted onto synthetic archival board) - comes framed in gold varnished wooden float frame and ready to hang. (allow about 7 days for my framer to have everything prepared for dispatch)
